I used to think that loving someone was enough but life has left me educated,
and utterly devastated.
I use to think that the simple emotion was enough,
that, that alone would make everything okay,
but today I realized that life is tough,
and sometimes things get a little too rough.
Oxford defines it as an intense feeling of deep affection,
But I have come to learn that love means action,
Actions everyday whether great or small,
that give joy to your partner's soul.
It means acting and choosing them, on their best day and most importantly on their worst day,
It means sometimes helping them fight, keeping their demons at bay,
it means choice to be with them, and even if the feeling of doubt sometimes creeps,
You dont allow it today for they are yours for keeps.
Love means respect,
Respect to not want to hurt them,
Respect to treat them as a person,
To treat them your person,
Because we only have one life in the end,
And it makes no sense to waste it on those that are not yours.
Love means honouring them with your breath,
As your life goes your love should increase its depth.
It means being the one, that's there,
the one that supports them,
care for them,
even on days when they are not them.
But sometimes love means letting them go,
because they are not good for you,
and you are not good for them.
Sometimes it means making the right decision even if they do not believe it,
Sometimes it means giving them a few tears so that they can have a life of pure joy.
Sometimes love isn't enough,
but I hope that it can be enough to keep fighting,
Because one day that spark in her eyes will stop being exciting,
but that's when action, respect and honour,
Cultivated over years,
Cultivated over decades,
Will keep us together,
Because sometimes love just isn't always enough
